James Talarico is a Democratic member of the Texas House of Representatives, representing District 50 since 2023, having previously represented District 52 from 2018 to 2023. Before entering politics, he worked as a middle school English teacher in San Antonio and later as Central Texas executive director for the education nonprofit Reasoning Mind. He holds a bachelor's degree in government from the University of Texas at Austin and a master's degree in education policy from Harvard University. Talarico won the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate in Texas in March 2026, defeating U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett, and faces Republican Ken Paxton in the November 2026 general election.
