John E. Sununu is a Republican candidate for the open U.S. Senate seat in New Hampshire in the 2026 election. He previously represented New Hampshire in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1997 to 2003 and in the U.S. Senate from 2003 to 2009. Sununu holds bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MBA from Harvard University; before entering Congress, he ran operations for an electronics company in Manchester. Since leaving the Senate, he has served as an adjunct senior policy advisor at the law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld and as chairman of the board of the Waterville Valley Ski Resort.
