Michael Whatley is the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate in North Carolina's 2026 election, running for the open seat being vacated by Senator Thom Tillis. He served as chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party from 2019 to 2024 and then as chairman of the Republican National Committee from 2024 to 2025, before announcing his Senate campaign on July 24, 2025. Earlier in his career, Whatley served as chief of staff to U.S. Senator Elizabeth Dole from 2004 to 2007 and holds a law degree from the University of Notre Dame.
