Roy Cooper is the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in North Carolina in the 2026 election, seeking the seat being vacated by retiring Senator Thom Tillis. He practiced law in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, after earning his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Cooper served in the North Carolina General Assembly before serving as North Carolina Attorney General from 2001 to 2017 and as Governor of North Carolina from 2017 to 2025. He won the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate on March 3, 2026.
