John C. Fleming Jr., a Republican, has served as Louisiana State Treasurer since taking office in January 2024 and previously represented Louisiana's 4th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2009 to 2017. He is a physician, a former U.S. Navy officer, and held positions in the first Trump administration, including Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development (2019–2020) and White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Planning and Implementation (2020–2021). Fleming ran for the U.S. Senate seat held by Bill Cassidy in the 2026 election, finishing second in the May 16 Republican primary before losing the June 27 runoff to U.S. Representative Julia Letlow, who received about 55% of the vote to Fleming's 45%.
