S. Raja Krishnamoorthi is a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Illinois' 8th Congressional District, where he has served since 2017. He ran for the U.S. Senate from Illinois in the 2026 Democratic primary. Born in New Delhi in 1973, he earned a bachelor's degree from Princeton University and a law degree from Harvard University, then worked as a partner at the law firm Kirkland & Ellis and as president of Sivananthan Laboratories, a research and development company. He previously served as a policy director on Barack Obama's 2004 U.S. Senate campaign and as a deputy state treasurer of Illinois from 2007 to 2009.
