James Carlin is a Republican who ran for the U.S. Senate in Iowa in the 2026 election. An attorney, he founded the Carlin Law Office, which handles malpractice and injury litigation, and holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a law degree from Marquette University Law School. Carlin served as an Iowa state senator representing the 3rd district from 2017 to 2023, and in 2022 he ran in the Republican U.S. Senate primary against Chuck Grassley, receiving about 26.5% of the vote. He lost the 2026 Republican Senate primary to Ashley Hinson.
