Steven T. Marshall, a Republican, is the 48th attorney general of Alabama, a position he has held since his February 2017 appointment by Governor Robert J. Bentley to fill the vacancy created by Luther Strange's appointment to the U.S. Senate; he was elected to a full term in 2018 and reelected in 2022. He previously served for 16 years as district attorney for Marshall County and is a native of Atmore, Alabama, with an undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law. In May 2025 he announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate in the 2026 Alabama election to succeed Tommy Tuberville; he is registered with the FEC as a Republican challenger in the 2026 Senate cycle (candidate ID S6AL00450).
