Derek Kitchen is a Salt Lake City Democrat and former Utah state legislator who served on the Salt Lake City Council (District 4, 2016-2019) and in the Utah State Senate (District 2, 2019-2023), and ran a Lebanese restaurant, Laziz Kitchen. He was a named plaintiff in Kitchen v. Herbert, the 2013 federal case that struck down Utah's same-sex marriage ban. According to FEC filings, he filed as a 2026 Democratic challenger for Utah's 1st Congressional District but withdrew before the primary.
