Gretel Enck, a Marfa resident, is the Democratic candidate for Texas's 23rd Congressional District in the 2026 election. The Big Bend Sentinel reports that she spent more than two decades with the National Park Service, including serving as an administrator for the Fort Davis National Historic Site and leading the effort to establish the Blackwell School as an NPS unit. She took early retirement in 2025 after cuts by the Department of Government Efficiency and officially launched her campaign in October 2025 at the Paisano Hotel in Marfa.
