Sam McCown, a physician, mechanical engineer, and businessman from Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, is the Republican candidate for South Carolina's 1st Congressional District in 2026. He earned a degree in mechanical engineering with a minor in administrative economics from Clemson University, then attended medical school, completed a radiology residency, and a nuclear medicine fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. McCown later served as a medical director in radiology, including work in women's health diagnosing and treating breast cancer, before retiring from medicine to invest in South Carolina businesses and mentor youth.
