Ala Stanford is a Philadelphia pediatric surgeon who earned a bachelor's degree from Penn State in 1992 and an M.D. from the Penn State College of Medicine in 1997. She founded the Black Doctors Consortium in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and served as regional director for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services from 2021 to 2024. A Democrat, she ran for Pennsylvania's 3rd Congressional District in 2026 and lost the Democratic primary on May 19, 2026.
