Dean Dafis, a Democrat, is a former member of the Maplewood Township Committee who ran in the 2026 special Democratic primary for New Jersey's 11th Congressional District; he unofficially withdrew but remained on the February 5, 2026 primary ballot. He was first elected to the committee in 2017 and later served a two-year term as Maplewood's mayor.
