Justin Strickland, a Democrat and Iraq War combat veteran who served as a U.S. Army Captain, ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. House in New Jersey's 11th Congressional District, losing both the February 5, 2026 special Democratic primary and the June 2, 2026 regular Democratic primary. He earned a Bronze Star and two Army Commendation Medals during two deployments to Iraq, then worked at the Pentagon on economic development in Iraq and Afghanistan, traveling to Afghanistan 16 times. He studied political science at Texas A&M University, where he served as an elected student government senator and was named 'Senator of the Year.' He later served on the Chatham Borough Historic Preservation Commission and was elected to the Chatham Borough Council in 2023.
