Ryan Busse was born in Omaha, Nebraska, and holds a bachelor's degree from Bethany College (1993). He worked for more than 25 years as a senior sales executive in the firearms industry, including as vice president of sales at Kimber Manufacturing, and is the author of the 2021 memoir Gunfight: My Battle Against the Industry That Radicalized America. He was the 2024 Democratic nominee for Governor of Montana, losing to incumbent Greg Gianforte. In 2026 he was a Democratic candidate for U.S. House in Montana's 1st Congressional District, raising $790,340.30 in campaign receipts.
