Samuel Kelley Forstag, known as Sam Forstag, is a smokejumper and union leader who worked his way through the University of Montana before joining the U.S. Forest Service, where he rose to become a smokejumper — a wildland firefighter who parachutes into remote areas to fight fires. He serves as vice president of his union's local and worked as an organizer and state legislative advocate on public education, healthcare, and public-lands issues. Forstag won the Democratic primary for Montana's 1st Congressional District on June 2, 2026, and is the Democratic nominee for the U.S. House seat in the November 3, 2026 general election.
