John Nagel is the Republican candidate for U.S. House in Minnesota's 5th Congressional District in 2026. A lifelong resident of Saint Louis Park, he served 30 years with the Minnesota State Patrol, graduating from its academy in 1981 and retiring in 2011 at the rank of Field Lieutenant; he patrolled Hennepin County, served on the Governor's security detail, and received training with the FBI and U.S. Secret Service. He holds a degree in Criminal Justice from the University of St. Thomas and, after retiring, taught defensive driving and college courses on terrorism and world governments.
