Miracle Jenkins, an Evanston native and Democratic political organizer, filed to run in the 2026 Democratic primary for Illinois' 9th Congressional District, the open seat vacated by retiring Rep. Jan Schakowsky. He grew up in Evanston, attended Evanston Township High School, and previously served as a community organizer for Schakowsky and worked on Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign. At the time of his filing, Jenkins worked as a stay-at-home dad and lived in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood; he suspended his campaign in September 2025 and endorsed fellow candidate Bushra Amiwala.
