Mai Vang is a member of the Sacramento City Council representing District 8, where she has served since 2020. A Sacramento native and the daughter of Hmong refugees, she previously served on the Sacramento City Unified School District board (Area 5) from 2016 to 2020. She is the Democratic nominee for California's 7th Congressional District in the November 3, 2026 general election, challenging incumbent Doris Matsui after advancing from the June 2, 2026 primary.
