Melissa Chaudhry is the Democratic candidate for Washington's 9th Congressional District in 2026. A published author and public servant, she previously produced weekly research briefs for the U.S. Department of State's Worldwide Human Geography Data Working Group and supported a $3.2 million federal grant for permanently affordable housing in King County. She first ran for WA-9 in 2024 on an all-volunteer operation endorsed by The Stranger, and her campaign identifies her as the first Muslim candidate in Washington state history to compete in a federal general election. She is 34 years old and a practising Muslim.
