Derek Merrin (Republican) is the 2026 Republican nominee for U.S. House in Ohio's 9th Congressional District, advancing from the May 5, 2026 primary and facing a November 3, 2026 rematch with incumbent Marcy Kaptur. A native of Smithtown, New York, he holds a B.A. from the University of Toledo and a Master of Public Administration from Bowling Green State University. Merrin served in the Ohio House of Representatives representing the 47th district (2016-2022) and the 42nd district (2023-2024). His prior public service includes election to the Waterville City Council and service as Mayor of Waterville, and his career experience includes work as a realtor and in the Ohio state auditor's office.
