Bennie Thompson (Democratic Party) is a member of the U.S. House representing Mississippi's 2nd Congressional District, having assumed office on April 20, 1993. Born in 1948 in Bolton, Mississippi, he earned a B.A. from Tougaloo College and an M.S. from Jackson State University. He served as mayor of Bolton from 1973 to 1979 and on the Hinds County Board of Supervisors from 1980 until his election to Congress, and worked as a school teacher before entering politics. He is running for re-election to the same seat in the November 3, 2026 general election.
