Antonio Villaraigosa served as Mayor of Los Angeles from 2005 to 2013 and previously held positions as Speaker of the California State Assembly (1998–2000) and Assembly member (1994–2000), following a career as a labor organizer and union activist beginning in the 1980s. He ran for California Governor in 2018, finishing second in the primary with 22.5% of the vote. Villaraigosa is currently active in California politics and has announced his candidacy for the 2026 gubernatorial race.
