Ami Bera is an American physician and Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives who has represented California's 6th Congressional District (in Sacramento County) since January 2023, after previously serving the 7th district from 2013 to 2023. Born Amerish Babulal Bera on March 2, 1965, in Los Angeles, he earned a bachelor's degree and M.D. from the University of California, Irvine, and later served as chief medical officer for Sacramento County. He is running in the 2026 general election for California's 3rd Congressional District following redistricting.
